This painting marks the moment when my journey out of my old life and into a new one truly began.
Like many of my works, it is built in layers. It took me nearly a year to complete because it grew together with me. Every layer holds a different part of that transformation.
Inside this canvas live fragments of an old happiness, deep depression, pain, the slow release of limiting beliefs, and the quiet arrival of a new beginning.
There are no bright colors here. No playful palette. Only black and white—the colors of an unwritten future. An empty space where a new life has yet to reveal itself.
The frame itself is broken.
For a long time, I considered repairing it. Then I realized it shouldn't be repaired. The broken frame became part of the artwork, just as my broken past became part of me. I chose to leave it exactly as it is.
You will also notice traces of melted candle wax on the surface. For me, they symbolize purification through fire—the burning away of everything that no longer belonged in my life, the closing of one chapter, and the beginning of another.
This painting will remain on Panglao Island, Philippines, in the home where it was created.
